I really enjoy working as a mentor to newly qualified therapists who are starting up or are in the early stages of establishing their private practice, as well as counsellors who are looking to develop and grow their businesses.

When I finished my counselling training remember I vividly recall feeling overwhelmed as I grappled with the decision of which direction to take in my therapy work. The idea of working in private practice was so appealing to me, yet I was plagued by self-doubt, fearful that I wasn't 'good enough'. Imposter syndrome was real as  the narrative that is common in our training is to wait for a certain period or pursue additional diplomas to ensure readiness for a private practice setting.

I remember feeling frustrated, I knew after working within various agency settings that I was ready to start my practice and committed wholeheartedly to working within the boundaries of my level of knowledge and expertise at the time but it still felt like I would be looked upon with disproval for taking the leap too early.

I do believe that it is so important that you set up your own practice only when you have acquired the knowledge and skills to do so competently and ethically but my view is that we all have our different levels of comfort, confidence and support to enable us to do this when the time feels right, rather than being led by the prescriptive two year timescale. I advocate for a more personalised approach, aligning with one's readiness and circumstances.

What's included

I'll ask you to complete a questionnaire prior to our scheduled session, it's not too tedious, I promise, and will allow me to to tailor our sessions to meet your private practice needs.

Our work together will consist of 5 x 90 minutes sessions, during which we will cover each of the 5 steps in detail. Following each session, I will send you a recording of our discussion, along with a summary of steps to action within an agreed timeline. This will help you to stay on track of meeting your goals.

 

You'll also have access to me through Voxer or WhatsApp over the course of our coaching sessions. This enables you to ask questions and seek feedback on any work stemming from our sessions.
